Faithful Choices-Get Closer To God

Faithful Choices

"Wherever you go, I will go;
wherever you live, I will live.
Your people will be my people,
and your God will be my God."

- Ruth 1:16 (NLT)

Hello Reader,

Thank you for joining me this week in my newsletter, where we focus on one piece of God's Word and explore how to apply it to our lives.

Today, we'll focus on a verse that shows faithful love put into action, and what positive effects can happen when we commit to God's love for us, even in times of uncertainty.

At times in our lives, we need inner courage and the insight to make honest choices. We must follow God's plan for us, and the first step is to have faith in Him.

Let's explore the Old Testament to discover how one woman made a devout choice that not only defined her but also validated God's plan and purpose for her, which He has for you, too.

A Little History...

The story takes place during the time of the Judges (Ruth 1:1), roughly 1200–1050 B.C.
This was a dark and unstable period in Israel’s history, marked by moral decline, disobedience, and a cycle of rebellion and deliverance.

The story unfolds between Moab (east of the Dead Sea) and Bethlehem in Judah (in Israel).
Ruth is a Moabite woman, leaves her homeland to settle in Bethlehem with her Israelite mother-in-law, Naomi.

Ruth speaks this verse to Naomi after their husbands' deaths. Naomi urges Ruth to return to Moab and her previous life, but Ruth refuses, expressing deep loyalty and a complete conversion of her faith.

How to Apply It To Your Life...

Stay Faithful in the Unknown

Ruth left everything familiar—her homeland, her people, her comfort—to follow Naomi and trust in a God she barely knew. Her decision was grounded in loyalty, love, and quiet courage.

Application: When life calls you into uncertain or uncomfortable places, choose faith over fear. Trust that God is working behind the scenes, even when you don’t have all the answers.

Choose Commitment Over Convenience

Ruth didn’t take the easy path. She stuck by Naomi out of deep love and integrity, even when it cost her everything. Her steadfastness became the foundation of a much bigger story.

Application: In your relationships, work, or ministry, let your commitment reflect godly character. Be known as someone who sticks with people and values faithfulness over quick results.

Let God Redeem Your Story

Ruth began her journey as a widowed, childless foreigner—but ended up grafted into God’s redemptive plan. Her life reminds us that no matter your background or brokenness, God can restore, redeem, and use your life for His glory.

Application: Don’t let your past define you. Surrender your story to God and trust Him to bring purpose from pain, just as He did for Ruth.

Let's Pray Together...

Dear Father God,

You have chosen me, and I choose You. Please guide me through the choices I face in life, and give me the strength to act boldly on my faith.

I want my life to reflect my love and devotion to You. Help me stay close to where You are and follow the path You’ve prepared for me. I trust that You, who created me in love, hold my heart and intentions close to Yours.

Amen.

Let's Sum It All Up...

Ruth could have reacted the exact opposite, and stayed in her land, with her people, who worshipped their god.

Instead, she chose to follow and worship the true God, staying with her mother-in-law in a new land and going wherever her faith led her.

God had a destiny for her, and all she needed to do was act on her faith.

Turns out, Ruth married a man named Boaz and they had a son, Obed.

Obed was the father of Jesse and the grandfather of David.

The direct lineage to Jesus.

You see, God's plan. Ruth's faith.

I hope you share this story of acting on your today with someone, and better yet, stand out in your own faith, and follow God more.

Get closer to Him.

Have a blessed day out there!
