Faith In Action- Closer to God Newsletter

You know, I've learned that life offers countless moments where clear comparisons lead us to discover true meaning and motivation.

The verse we'll look at today does just that.

It also helps answer the question: What is the reason for having positive qualities in your life and not putting them to use?

This week, we're talking about our gift of faith.

Hebrews 11:1 defines faith clearly and explains that we can comprehend God's ways and build a good reputation among people through our actions.

I'm guilty, among many others, of having a strong faith but not practicing it to the fullest.

But I'm trying and getting better at it.

Today presents a simple comparison that encourages our belief to take action, leading to good works of love, kindness, and compassion while, in turn, strengthening our faith.

"As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead."

James 2:26 · New International Version

Here's a Brief Background...

The Book of James is found in the New Testament, and he is the brother of Jesus and one of the earliest leaders in the Christian church.

Most of chapter two of his book focuses on the correlation between faith and good works.

He argues that faith cannot exist without being put into action, emphasizing that true faith strengthens a person and inherently produces good works.

Let's Break It Down...

James illustrates that true faith can only thrive when applied: "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead."

This text highlights the crucial connection between the body and faith and the vital relationship between spirit and deeds.

The analogy is effective because it helps the reader understand the underlying message.

Just as a body without a spirit cannot live or exist, faith cannot thrive without being expressed through good works.

We need to breathe life into our faith by reaching out, helping others, and making the world around us a better place to live.

How Can We Apply It?...

Here are some great ideas to bring life to your faith:

Caring for Others.

One clear message in the Book of James is to care for those in need. Acts of compassion, charity, and support for vulnerable individuals are at the core of living out our faith.

Acts of Kindness.

Jesus taught us to love our neighbors as ourselves. We exercise our faith through forgiving others, helping those in distress, and practicing patience and compassion.

Be A Peacemaker.

We should always strive to promote peace in our relationships and within our community. Seeking peace in our everyday conflicts reflects our faith.

Serve others.

Jesus served others in need, and we should follow His example. When we perform acts of service in our communities, we demonstrate that our hearts align with God's mercy for others.

To Sum it All Up...

This verse is a clear call to action for our faith.

We only need to decide to answer that call when the opportunity arises.

Is it a friend or neighbor in need?

A community cause that needs support?

A prayer for others in times of despair?

We've heard the saying, "Walk the walk and talk the talk."

Our faith must take action, and by doing so, the world will notice. Witnessing our faith in action has the power to transform lives.

Here's a Prayer For You...

Dear Heavenly Father,
Just as the body without the spirit is lifeless, so is faith without action.

Lord, help me bring my faith to life by showing love, kindness, and compassion to those around me through my good works.

I long to grow into a better reflection of Your heart, allowing my faith to shine brightly as a divine example in this broken world.

Teach me to live out Your Word, not just in thought, but in action, so that my life may glorify You.

In Your loving name, I pray. Amen.

Thank you for taking the time to incorporate God's Word into your life today.

If you develop a strong habit of this, everything will improve for the better.

My aim is to bring you closer to God, one verse at a time. As always, please share this with others, as there is likely someone who needs to hear it.

Remember, I'm praying for you; please continue to pray for me.

Have a Blessed Day and Week out there!
